SSRC Check-in and giveaway

So, the reading challenge began on Sunday and it's now Wednesday. And there are already a few people who posted reviews - YAY! - and a few who've started their reads. (I'm not one of them.)

I would love to know just how things are going so far with those of you who have started. And I'm curious to see if anyone is already thinking of backing out.

Committing to a read - or re-read - for a series that is already five books long, isn't always easy. Which is why I've spread this out over the next few months. A book a month isn't too tough and each book in the series is so wonderfully easy to devour in just one sitting.

And while I'm chomping at the bit (oh what an awful expression that is) to start reading, even if it is just to read and review Never to Sleep, I won't get a chance to start reading until the first week in February. Yes, I'm a last minute kind of girl.

But, if you would like to share your thoughts, I'd love to hear how's it going. Even if you're signed up and haven't yet begun reading.

And....

If you leave a comment with your thoughts on the challenge so far, and a way to get in touch - Twitter name, FB page, email or other - I will let Random choose one winner on Saturday night at 10 p.m. Pacific for:

One copy of any of Rachel Vincent's books that I can order from Amazon or The Book Depository.

Yes, it's international. Yes, you have to be at least 13. And yes, if you choose one of the adult reads you need to be at least 18.

I will email the winner for their book selection and announce them here in this post later that evening.

THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. STAY TUNED! I'll be running the numbers through Random to choose a winner. Good luck!

Congratulations Momo! You are the winner for the Rachel Vincent book of your choice! And no, I did not count wrong because Andrea was not entered into the giveaway, so a number wasn't added for her comment!

I will be having another check in (with giveaway) here next month, but feel free to leave any status updates in the comments to let everyone know how you're doing with the challenge!

  1. I haven't started reading them yet but I will tonight. I love the idea of this challenge, gives me a great excuse to finally start reading this series. I bought The Soul Screamers Volume 1 and need to purchse books 3 & 4 since I won book 5 awhile ago.

Yay! Can't wait to dive right in. :)

  3. I was so anxious to start re-reading this series that I already re-read and reviewed MSTLose on my blog.
I'm about halfway done with MSTTake and it's so awesome. I haven't read this book since 2009 so it's like reading them for the first time. Once you get caught up in the later books, you forget some of the best parts of the first ones.
After everything happened (no spoilers I promise), I forgot how charming and sweet Nash is. How much he really cares for Kaylee.
There really aren't enough words to describe how excited I am to re-read this entire series. It's one of my personal favorites and it still blows me away. Even reading it for the second time.
I can't wait to make this stretch out for these months. They're going to be my guilty pleasure ;)

  9. Hey there

I was really happy to sign up to this challenge as it gives me a good schedule to be getting on with book reviews which I sometimes do via my blog. I have had a different take to a lot of people on Soul Screamers so I would like to get a discussion started.

I would also mention that I got the books as audiobooks which is my preferred method as it gave me something to do on my commute for 2 hours a day when I was working.

Without giving too much away I felt frustrated through the early books just wanting to shake Kayleigh by the shoulders for some of the decisions she makes and fails to make but then I read somewhere that Rachel Vincent likes when we question the decisions of her characters so maybe I am reacting as intended.

My review of Book 1 is already up on my blog and I am thinking of relistening to the prequel and getting a review of that up. I think it is a great way to start the series. It is how I started it.

    Happy Reading

  10. I've re-read MSTT a few days ago and enjoyed the experience all over again. I think the idea of this challenge is great since I've always wanted to re-read the series before the release of BIW, but didn't have any incentive to do so. Gotta do my review soon. :)

  11. I haven't started yet but I will soon. I'm in the middle of reading something else at the moment but since I read about 5-10 books on a month I'm not worried.

I haven't read this series at all yet. I have read and loved Rachel Vincent's shifter series though. I've had the first of the Soul Screamers books on my TBR shelf for a while so I'm using this challenge to finally buckle down and read the books!

  15. I BEGUN SUNDAY!!!!!!!
this is the fourth time rereading it and WOW
For me, this has got to be the time I'm having a difficult time rereading it, I blame IF I DIE because now that I know what happens in there...my heart, my body, my soul, ALL OF ME suffers, cries, whimpers, breaks appart...I really don't know how to explain it...but well, sometimes I find myself rereading tiny bits of scenes I LITERALLY LOOOOOOVED AND STILL LOVE but that I know I won't get to see again...maybe never :(
All in all I'm trying to read as slow as possible and soak up things I took for geanted before...Rachel once again...is just taking my breath away....<3<3<3
ooh almost forgot the giveaway...got a BIT carried away hehe on page...90 now

  17. I have started re-reading the first book. It's a lot different reading-with-intent-to-discuss than just the normal blazing through a book that I normally do. It doesn't help that I've had an awful headache for several days. I'm hoping to have the book finished and "reviewed" (like I'm even close to being in league with real reviewers) by the middle of next week.

  19. I started re-reading My Soul to Take last night and OH. MY. GOSH. I'd forgotten how much I loved Nash. It makes me sad to read how awesome he is knowing what's going to happen with/to him in the other books.

p.s. I absolutely love that you're doing this challenge. I've been meaning to re-read all the books for a while, but there's always a new book out there waiting for me so I haven't made the time. So I'm glad to have this challenge to make me! :)

  29. I love this challenge- seriously! It was the perfect motivation for me to read the Soul Screamers again. I was already planning to before BIW comes out anyway, but this challenge kinda sped up the process. Too fast, in fact. I kinda... erm... finished reading all five books and two novellas already... (Not counting Never to Sleep.) It was just sooo good and I couldn't stop! Though now I'm paying for it since I haven't finished the reviews yet...

So yeah, before i go off blabbing again, this challenge was one of the best things you ever came up with! :D

  30. I'm hoping to start re-reading this weekend. I'm extremely excited about this challenge because it will be my first attempt at actually expressing my thoughts (at least to people who care) about a book. Thanks for the opportunity/motivation to do so.

  32. Hey Rachel, I started re-reading "MSTLose" last night. I'm almost embarrassed to say I couldn't finish it in one sitting. ;) I was just sooo exhausted that I had to stop at about half way. The thing, so far, I love most is reading about events I can now connect with things that happen later on in the series - if that just made sense. LOL I'm hoping to finish it tonight and start with "MSTTake" in 2 days or so, when I'm finished with "Halo". :)

  33. I absolutely love this series. I have read and re-read all the books and e-books, and can't wait to read them all again. I only have one problem with that series...every one is so awesomely good that I can't put it down once I pick it up and read it too fast. Then like now I either impatiently wait for the next to come out or just keep re-reading them. LOL. Anyway for anyone who hasn't read them, they are rated teen, but I am 43 and absolutely in love with them. Racheal Vincent is truly gifted.

  34. I'm not quite done with my re-read of My Soul To Take, but already I'm mentally crafting a review and my thoughts on what's different reading it through a second time. What I'm thinking right now: Tod kinda seems like he hates Nash, and I don't think I hate Nash as much as I thought I did. But I still love Tod.

  35. I love this challenge! It was actually my first challenge ever! I didn't know if I'd get into the series and I'd feel like I failed, but thank goodness I did get hooked! Rachel Vincent is amazing; one of my favorite authors now. I read My Soul to Take in about a day. Haven't done something like that in . . well, never!(x I can't wait until we are able to start reading My Soul to Save (that's right, right?)! I know it's going to be awesome(:
