SSRC Check-In + Quickie Before I Wake Pre-order Giveaway #6

Well, the Soul Screamers Reading Challenge officially ends tomorrow at Midnight! I can't believe it's almost over. Though I'm so super thrilled that BEFORE I WAKE comes out in less than two weeks!

I hope you all had an amazing time reading or re-reading Rachel Vincent's books in this action-packed and emotionally intense world. I know I did! Though I still have one final re-read to complete my challenge and that's NEVER TO SLEEP.

I will be writing a post on the main blog next week about the challenge and spotlighting a few of my favorite and most active participants.

I am also going to have a special BEFORE I WAKE one month link-up after BIW releases in which those who read and review it by August 1 will be eligible to win $50 in books of their choice from Amazon or The Book Depository.

And we still have our IF I DIE Spoiler Chat in June, hopefully before the release of BIW - so that there will be few who can spoil that next book. But that depends on Rachel's availability. She is writing WITH ALL MY SOUL after all and that most definitely comes first.

So as this is the final check in, I would really just love to hear your overall thoughts about the challenge experience, re-reading the SOUL SCREAMERS books and just what you think about Tod and Nash, especially having read IF I DIE.

And for giveaway, I will be giving away two pre-order copies of BEFORE I WAKE from Amazon or The Book Depository. It will be the U.S. edition which releases/ships on June 26th.

  1. I suck!!! I only participated in one month. :( But I read book 2! And I'm determined to finish all of the books by the end of the summer. I liked seeing everyone else' reviews though!

  2. I really loved the challenge, for most of the books it was my first time reading them, so it was more of a catch up than a re-read.

It was really cool reading one a month and having a set time to do so, rather than just having them waiting in my reading pile.

I prefer Tod to Nash and always will, but I think Nash was better with Kaylee.

  3. I enjoyed the challenge. I had read all but If I Die so it helped me finish up. The poor book had been waiting a long time to be read.

  4. I had such an awesome time, this challenge got me into this series and I love it! I finished all the books, and can't wait for the next one coming out this month!

  5. I re-read all the series on a fairly regular basis as I absolutely fell in love with them! They come with me on most of my hols but I'm thinking of going digital as they are getting a tad too many now :p I confess to being a bit behind with If I Die, but I shall continue to read as this series is far too good to stop!

  6. I had a lot of fun re-reading the first three books, and enjoyed in the reading My Soul to Steal and If I Die for the first time. I am glad I joined the challenge, because it pushed me to read MSTS and If I Die! Thank you for hosting such an awesome challenge, and I cannot wait to see where Kaylee goes in BIW!

  7. I only read through book #4, but I loved this series! I'm picking up #5 from the library tomorrow, if only it had come in last week! :P

  8. I really loved the challenge! It was a great way to be introduced to the books, I hadn't read them before. I've also read all the novellas/short stories apart from Niederwald, though I haven't had time to post reviews for them...
I also thought it was awesome of Rachel to do the spoiler chats - definitely worth staying up for, even though sometimes they were scheduled from midnight to one a.m. in my timezone. I can't wait for Before I Wake.

I love Tod. Always have - I actually decided to give the series a shot after reading about halfway through Reaper when it was still available on Rachel's website. And after the way Nash acted in IID... no Sir. Tod is just perfect for Kaylee. They have the same goals and passions (i.e. saving other people even if it seems impossible). He was always looking out for her. He puts her first but doesn't hold back with his view of things. He doesn't abuse her trust. I can't wait to see how things turn out for them now that they are sort of on the same level of living/dead status!

  9. I loved this challenge it was the best part of blogging this year.
I only re-read My soul to take and the other books were so page-turner.
After Before I wake I ended up really confused, cuz... I think I loved Tod.. and then I started loving Nash.. and then none of them and both at the same time.
Well, thank you RACHEL, cuz if it wasn't for you and this amazing challenge I wouldn't read this series, even though my best friend is like the fan #1 in our group!

  10. Unfortunately I only reread the first two, and only reviewed the first one. You are amazing, to host this challenge. I would love to have my own blog, but after viewing yours, its easy to be intimidated. And I absolutely can't wait to read the new one!

  11. Well up until this month I was doing great with the reading challenge! This month got away from me. Sigh I've got the book but have not yet had a chance to start reading it due to work and life getting in the way. Still, I had a wonderful time discovering this series and I can't wait to find out what happens in the last two books! Can't believe that it will soon be coming to an end.

Also, I want to thank you for all the hard work you did in putting this challenge together and making it run smoothly. You seriously deserve some massive rewards. =^.^= And if it wasn't for you, I don't think I'd have read this series any time soon, so thanks!

  12. This challenge has been amazing!! Thank you for introducing me to an amazing series and author!!! Like I said the other day-- Rachel Vincent books are my own personal Frost-- completely addictive and drive me CRAZY waiting for the next!! Thanks again!!

  13. I loved the series, especially TOD! thanks to this challenge I decided to read this amazing series.
Can´t wait to read Before I Wake!

  14. well, I participated in two months and then slowly backed away to focus on school work and life. However, I read the third book this month and got My Soul to Steal today and can't wait to read it and If I Die (and of course Before I Wake and the last one!)

thanks for the challenge, Rachel. <3 I honestly wouldn't have read Rachel Vincent's books this year (or the next) if it wasn't for you.

  15. I've participated in all the months and have read them all before. I've also reviewed them all for this challenge (with the exception of My Soul to Lose, but I hope to get that done today...). I really loved this challenge because it gave me a chance to relearn everything that has happened so far and keep things almost new.

Tod has and always will be the one that I choose (in the matter of Nash or Tod). Despite being dead and all, he's just so alive! How can you not love a guy like that?

Thank you, Rachel for holding this challenge! I loved every moment of it!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Even though I was only able to submit only two reviews, I had a good time! I loved it! Thanks!

  17. This challenge has been absolutely amazing. I had already read through all of the books before, but I was amazed at how many small details hadn't registered the first time around. Little things that just didn't seem as important at the time because there was SO MUCH GOING ON. This series is wonderful. Any opportunity for more people to read anything by Rachel Vincent gets a thumbs up in my book.

More than that, though, it was so cool to just try reviewing novels. I'd always loved to talk about books with my friends, and I had never thought that I might enjoy sharing my thoughts about them with the rest of the world. I might have to start doing this more often.

So thank you, thank you, thank you to both of the Rachels for setting this up and writing all of the wonderful books in the first place. You guys are great!

  18. I'm a big fan of re-reading books as you catch so much more the second time around. However, I hadn't done a re-read review before. I really enjoyed the challenge because it had me take an even closer look.

  19. This was my first time reading Soul Screamers and your challenge came at a perfect time for me! I think you spoiled me for other challenges! I didn't think the rules were harsh, the timing was great. I did read ahead at the end (c'mon! It was If I Die - I couldn't wait! For the record, I read it again for the review ;) ) I'm still in awe of Rachel Vincent and her participation in this challenge!!! Thank you!!

The whole Nash vs. Tod debate... I have been Nash all the way, from the beginning. I know, I heard everything Kaylee was saying in If I Die about how he just wanted in her pants right away, blah blah blah, but that's his age, he's younger and crazier than Tod. And I always thought it was such a tragedy that he inhaled the Demon's breath on accident. And he was doing it during a favor for Kaylee, for Tod. I do love how Tod always came thru for Kaylee but he's older, has had to make bigger decisions that Nash knows nothing about. And I love how Tod loves Kaylee, if ya know what I mean. Seriously, If I Die WAS the most romantic. Tod has some serious rogue in him.

It's just such a tragedy and I think Rachel wrote such a great book for me to feel so much for these characters!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I forgot to mention I simply can't make up my mind on the whole Nash/Tod debate, as if you couldn't really tell ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I read every book in the challenge. This gave me enough motivation to get through and I ended up really enjoying this series. Can't wait to get my hands on Before I Wake!

  22. This was my first challenge read, and I'm glad that it was my favorite author Rachel Vincent! :)

  23. I didn't manage to read anything. *hangs head in shame*
I really wanted to, but it's been really crazy this past few months. Hopefully I can get to them this summer.

  24. By the way, I was signed up as Arantza.

  25. I am very ashamed. I was with all good intentions planning to re-read all the books but I didn't end up participating at all. I just get so busy with review books that I never have time for my own pleasure reading. I do re-read my favorite parts all the time especially If I Die. I re-read that one all the time but didn't fully re-read cover to cover so I didn't want to cheat and write a review without fulling re-reading. If that makes sense. But I did still love the challenge. I checked out all your posts and reviews and LOVED the chats! Thanks so much to you and Rachel Vincent. I am so excited for the IID and BIW chats.

  26. Oh and I wanted to talk about Tod/Nash. I loved Tod from the first book. I always wanted him and Kaylee together although I admit I was truly shocked it actually happened. I never get my way. That kind of made my re-reading difficult. I was a bit bored with reading about Nash and Kaylee in the first book. I wanted to get back to Kaylee and Tod because I enjoy them so much more. So every time I tried to read the first book I would just end up reading the 5th book lol so all in all Tod forever! :-D

  27. This Challenge has been so much fun, and I'm glad I got a chance to participate! I wasn't able to read all the books, because my library's copies of My Soul to Steal and If I Die mysteriously disappeared sometime a couple months ago. They must have gotten new ones, because I finally got them today! Even though it'll be too late for me to review them for the Challenge, I'm going to reread and review them anyway to give myself some closure, and to prep for BIW!

I had a lot of fun during the Challenge, from the chats to the reviews to just rereading these awesome books!! What interested me was how much more I thought about the characters and their development this time around. I learned that I didn't hate Nash, even though I thought I did, and Sophie wasn't as obnoxious as I thought--or if she was, it wasn't entirely her fault. I realized I really COULD love Tod more. And Kaylee? Well, Kaylee was just as awesome as ever this time around!

Anyway, I just want to say thank you for hosting such an awesome Challenge, and making it so much fun for all of us!

  28. Well, while I didn't re-read all of the books, I did end up re-reading all of Reaper, most of If I Die and some of My Soul to Take and My Soul to Save.

I actually started out with my favorite scenes of MStTake, MStSave and IID, but that escalated into a full re-read of Reaper and more of the other books then I planned on re-reading at the time. What can I say, Rachel Vincent's books are addictive, even the second time around.

I also started re-reading because I wanted to re-experience the progression of Tod and Kay's relationship, signs of it long b efore I caught on and the signs of Nash and Kay's relationship not working even before MStK. I'm glad to say I found them and a lot more like more insight and details into the story and characters that I had missed the first tie around. also realize that I adore the characters and that Rachel Vincent is an even better writer than I thought and that says a lot since I already thought she was awesome.. Ms Vincent even mentioned some of them in IID. I'm kind of proud of myself because I honestly didn't think I had it in me to re-read even though I entered the challenge with the best intentions to do just that.

The only downside (which is also an upside) is tat now I'm dying to get my hands on BIW and it's not here yet. Pure torture!

And now I have to go, because I have no idea what I'm doing here. I'm sick, my back and my head are killing me and whether I'm lucid or not is questionable. I really hope this comment makes sense when I wake up tomorrow.

Before I go, thanks for the challenge and for making me realize that re-readng (at least when it comes to the SS series) is for me.

  29. The challenge gives me the opportunity to re-read the whole series again and review some of the books that I haven't review before. When I first read the whole series I'm into a marathon mode at that time trying to catch up with all the books that is already out. And since I'm too overwhelmed I didn't get the nerve to review all the books. I'm a bit afraid that I mixed up all the stories in my head that I don't know where the one ends & where the other begins. So this challenge refresh me with everything that happens in the series. It is really nice experiencing all the thrills & adventures of this series once again. Thanks so much Rachel for hosting the challenge! It makes me love the series more!

  30. Well, I've said it a few times throughout the challenge, I won the entire series from your blog a few months before the challenge was announced. I kept telling myself, "I'll get to it"...*books collecting much dust on shelves*. As soon as I saw the sign ups, I was ready to go. Ugh! New blog...new responsibilities...not organized=not much time. It took a couple of months to get going and get caught up. I finally did and quickly became hooked.
I am sooo glad I listened to the die hard fans. This series has been a joy to read...heartaches, not withstanding. Rachel V is a great storyteller and I've had fun trying to reel in my emotions in order to write my reviews with honesty and a relevant perspective without giving anything away.
This has been a wonderful challenge with so many perks...making new friends, following old friends...really creating excitement for the next installment. It's safe to say we're all pretty anxious to get ahold of Before I Wake. Gimme gimme gimme!!!
Thank you, our most fearless and gracious host! You've made a Rachel Vincent fan for life outta me.

  32. This challenge has been so much fun. I've enjoyed these books much more than I thought I would! I've read all of the full length books, My Soul to Lose, and Neiderwald. I'm hoping to read a least read Reaper or Never to Sleep before the challenge ends tomorrow but I'm not sure I'll make it!

Thanks again for hosting this and for introducing me to the amazing world that is the Soul Screamers!

  33. It was fun! I could only read the first book in the challenge because of college :(

  34. I couldn't be more in love even if my life depended on it... my mind is just so in-tune with the stories, with the characters...
I thought I knew them by heart this year around, I seriously can't remember how many times exactly, have I read the books, but even now... after all the rereads the plots and heartbreaks but most of all, the characters still manage to scare me, surprise me, or simply blow my mind...

I really thank the day these books came my way!! There were only 3 released at the time! T_T

And even more happy that I made the books come to the country... So Yeap... My rereading experience has been amazing and unforgettable! After all, this IS the first reading challenge I've EVER joined-I also joined another one this year but it's annual...and I'm holding my breath trying to read the 20 or so books that I need to!-

    T____________T
And, one more thing... even after all the letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, pages, chapters, books read... I still love Nash :/ I can't help it T_T don't get me wrong... I'm team TodFTW but... I've almost always been team underdog... and in this case... the papers were switched, so it's in my nature I guess... I will forever have a tiny bit of hope in there... unless..........
    T____________________________T

-sniff- I don't even want to think...
so I'll just go... away---away... until...
    Tomorrow :D hehehe

  35. I know I've said this before Rachel, but thank you for hosting this challenge, so I finally read the series, 'cause yeah, I didn't know what I was missing :) I usually stay away from spoilers of books & series I'm going to read, and although I knew that everyone loves Tod, I didn't know why, but now I do!
I read everything so far & yeah, loved them all, a fan of the series & can't wait for Before I Wake, so excited.
So, my thoughts on the series (I'll try to keep it short): I loved the world & characters Rachel created, I also like how she can make you have completely different feelings about a character with every book, mainly characters you maybe didn't like a lot (only one author has been able to do that so far to me, so, yeah, it's rare) so you end up really caring & liking all the characters (main & secondary) so yeah, I love her writing style & I really have to read more of her books.
Participating in this challenge & reading the series was lots of fun, 'cause the series made me laugh out loud, and made me cry, made me swoon & yeah, keep me on the edge of my sit in suspense quite a few times :)
I absolutely love Tod - I really liked him from MStT & I don't know when exactly, somewhere around MStK & Reaper I started to love him - when Tod punched Nash - one of my fav scenes :) Also, I love Kaylee as a character and Tod & Kaylee are now one of my fav couples!
My fav novel is If I Die (some of my top fav scenes are from there).

p.s. I'm signed up for SSRC as Aleksandra's Corner.

Oh, and thank you so much for the giveaway, *crossing my fingers* :)

  36. This challenge was awesome! I am happy to say that I was able to participate each month, and do all the extra credit reads for the novellas and short stories- except for Never to Sleep, that is. (I just finished reading your ramblings blog, and wow, you falling asleep while reading that is just TOO ironic! :D)

But anyway, this challenge is my favorite one, ever. And thank you so much for hosting it, because its making me all the more excited for BIW!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think you already know this Rachel but I have to say it one more time: this challenge rocked! Seriously rocked!!! You gave us (or at least gave me) that little push I needed to read the SS series and I couldn't be happier.

I love every single book and novella. I loved reading some of the others reviews. I loved the chats with Rachel Vincent ( although I didn't participate in any of them I read what was said^^U) and I loved all your giveaways because you put a lot of effort in every one of them.

Now all I can do is wait for BIW and enjoy it as much as I did the others :]

Thank you for all your hard work!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'd love to post something witty, thoughtful and very intelligent to truly express how much I loved and enjoyed this challenge. When I first started reading this series, more or less a year ago, I liked it just fine. My love grew as the story went on and I understood it better and I ended up loving it. Re-reading the books was a great experience; I got to understand the characters in a new way, I laughed and cried and got mad and suffered with them and I appreciated RAchel's writing once again. she is such an awesome writer!

But the thing I loved the most was seeing so much love for the books going around! I admire all the work you put into this challenge, the time you took to answer emails, posting other people's reviews, creating chats and such... it was amazing and very ispiring, too.

So, not only I cannot wait to read BIW and discover new adventures, but I also got to know an amazing blogger. REALLY amazing! SO THANK YOU!

Ps. And check your mail in, say, three-four weeks. A little present from italy is on its way! I decided a postcard was not enough!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, Rachel, I had such a blast during this reading challenge and it was in most part thanks to you and Rachel Vincent!!! The rest was because of the books, of course. :P It was the first challenge for me ever and I had a couple of months where I wasn't sure I'd make the "deadline" but I'm so happy I did. I hadn't re-read a book in a long, long time, simply because my little man's keeping me so busy, there's not a whole lot of time to read to begin with, so I tend to only read books I haven't read before. Well, but when I first saw your sign-up post, I knew I didn't have a choice - Avari might have come after me if I hadn't signed up. LOL So, anyway, through all this rambling, I just want to say I thoroughly enjoyed the SSRC and I am so sad to know it is almost over. You should have seen my face when I first read you were adding another month for BIW. In all honesty, I was grinning like an idiot. :D I just don't want this to end! *sigh*
You are such an amazing host and with all the hard work and passion you put into this challenge, it made it an incredible experience for everybody who joined. Thank you so, so much for everything you do!!! :)
Also, a very big thank you to Rachel Vincent for taking time out of her, no doubt, busy schedule to chat with us!!! I'm super excited for the If I Die spoiler chat. :D

As for Tod and Nash, you already know the answer, though I have to admit Nash grew on me a little bit during the second read. I didn't like him the first time around at all, but that changed a little during the second read-through - especially during MSTSave. He really showed how loyal he is and how much he cares about Kaylee. That might be my favorite novel when it comes to Nash. Funnily enough, it's also the one were I was most infuriated with Tod. LOL It didn't last long though because I know he only tried to save a person he deeply cared about.
ANYWAY! LOL I am and always will be Team Tod!!! :D (I can't wait for #DaemonInvasion to be over, so I can have my Tod AVI back. ;))

Thank you again, Rachel!!! I could go on and on, but I have the feeling I might have already overstayed my welcome. LOL

PS: No mail yet, but hopefully tomorrow, if not, it will be a long agonizing weekend. Who ever thought it was a good idea to NOT deliver mail on Saturdays? ;) *jk* OK, really off now! :D

  40. I'm the worst participant in this challenge! I re read only the first one, and that's it. Not even a review. All hopes were lost until If I Die finally arrived last friday. I was so excited to start reading it. It was agonizing to stay away from it, but school had to come first, but alas *lol*, I'm done with it, and it.was. EPIC. Did a review on this one, YAY! So, I'm not at all a lost case. Thank you for the challenge, and I'm impressed by the dedication and effort you and other people put in this awesome event!

P.S. I LOVE TOD <3 *had to say that, sorry*

  41. I loved this reading challenge! I have read every book during this challenge but I'm just so far behind in reviews. I loved If I Die!! All I can say is GO TOD!! I just love him! I cant wait to see where BIW will take us!
